Nurayn Activism

We apply that which we learn in the form of community service initiatives and other creative methods, racing to perform good wherever we can find it, Insha'Allah.

Here is a timeline of our social activism:

July 2011

East Africa Crisis: Raised over $6,400 for Islamic Relief’s efforts in East Africa. Islamic Relief is assisting those afflicting by the crisis by offering emergency primary health care services, canned meat and food parcels, mass screenings for malnutrition, and new water pumps.

 

December 2010

Unicef’s Tap Water Project & Water.org: Donated $125 ($25 provides clean water for 5 people for life).

 

September 2010

Smile Train: Raised $300 for a cleft palate repair

The seminar during the time of the project was entitled “The Prophet’s Smile“, so the Qabeelah campaigned to ‘Spread The Smile’ amongst volunteers, registrants, and community members. Nurayn Projects took it a step further and raised funds for the Smile Train Program to perform a full cleft palate repair surgery.

We hope and pray that the beneficiary of the surgery can smile once more.

 

February 2010

Global Deaf Muslim Dinner Sponsorship in Sterling, VA: Donated $600 to sponsor the GDM fundraising dinner

 

October 2009

IlmFest 2009 in Baltimore: Qabeelah raised approx $3600 for two sign language interpreters

Winter Clothing Drive: The clothing was distributed to both Muslim and non-Muslim families. We were able to distribute to 10 specific Muslim families in Baltimore, consisting of a total of 11 sisters, 5 brothers, and 24 children and to Mission of Love Charities.

Islamic Relief’s United Against Malaria Event: Nurayn volunteers were out in force to aid in this effort.

 

March 2009

Br. AbdiRazak Fundraiser: Br AbdiRazak, the sole provider for his wife and three kids was involved in a tragic car accident that left him in a coma for two weeks.     Alhamdulillah we  were able to raise over $4000 in two days for the family.

Muslimat Al Nisaa (homeless women’s shelter in Baltimore): Raised more than $3131.17 and two trunk loads worth of non-perishable food items and toiletries in one weekend

March 2008

Code 4 Creation: “The objective of Code 4 is to provide the community with updates send out announcements about special opportunities to fast, visit the sick, and feed the poor in addition to janazah alerts.

The Pencil Project for a Girls’ Orphanage in Afghanistan: In cooperation with the Afghan Student Association, collected over 3,000 pencils and school supplies which were shipped and delivered to an Islamic girl’s school in Afghanistan.

 

February 2008

Foods & Friends: “Volunteers spent their day driving through parts of DC and Virginia delivering food to indigent and sick people.”

Islamic Relief Orphan Sponsorships: In 2007 & 2008: Sponsored 3 children in Mali & Bangladesh and in 2009 ($1032 in 2009) – Sponsored 2 children in Sudan and Bangladesh for one year.

Responding to letters from Muslim prison inmates: Helped the Islamic Information Center at Dar-us-Salaam with responding to inmate letters, brothers from jails across the country asking for da’wah materials, books, clothes, and especially musahif/interpretations of the Qur’an.

 

Pre-Merge

Qabeelat Mubarak was part of the George Mason University MSA

Annual Fast-a-thon during Ramadan, provided free meals for students,

Mubarak paid for all GMU MSA officers to attend AlMaghrib seminars for free, and the MSA paid for 10 scholarship seats
